Even longer lines may be forming at your local Costco. Beginning Friday, April 3, Costco is temporarily changing its membership policy in order to control how many people are in the warehouse at one time.

The new policy states that no more than two people may enter the store on a membership card – previously Costco members were permitted to bring two guests, along with children.

“This temporary change is for your safety and the safety of our employees and other members, and to further assist with our social distancing efforts,” the website says.

Costco is joining a list of retailers, including Home Depot, who are instituting these changes to limit big crowds.

These changes are temporary and placed to protect the health of employees and customers during the COVID-19 crisis.

Additionally taking place on Friday, U.S. Costco stores will close at 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, the gas stations at Costco will be open from 7:30 a.m. through 7 p.m. on weekdays, closing at 6:30 p.m. on weekends.

Senior hours (members ages 60 and up) are invited to shop from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
