Hamilton

Are you a massive musical fan, or history buff? “EduHam at Home” might be the answer you’ve been looking for. The program, focused on American History and the musical Hamilton, is intended for students from grades 6-12 and their families.

Created as a response to COVID-19 by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History (GLI) and the creators of Hamilton, EduHam explores the people and events during the 1700s era of the United States. Similar to the Broadway musical, you’ll follow in Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda’s footsteps and learn how he incorporated the sources into the songs he created.

Participants will have an opportunity to create and perform their own narrative of the founding era in a submission. The submissions can be in a rap, song, scene, or spoken word. In addition, select performances will be shared on the Hamilton App and the GLI website.

After signing up for the program, you’ll receive:

  • A personal welcome greeting from the man himself, Lin-Manuel Miranda
  • Tips and guidance from EduHam teachers to help students create their own work
  • Video highlights from past student performances for great examples
  • Free materials for participants and their families to explore and enjoy, including
    • Videos clips from Hamilton and interviews with Lin-Manuel Miranda, selected cast members and the author who inspired Hamilton
    • A wide selection of primary sources

The EduHam program comes just at the right time. Disney+ announced today that the film of the original Broadway production of Hamilton will be coming to the streaming service on July 3, a full-year early.
