After taking an extra week longer, the city of Boston is entering Phase 3 of reopening.
Considered by experts as one of the riskiest phases, Phase 3 in Boston will permit the following to open under strict guidelines thanks to Bostonians “doing the right things” according to Mayor Walsh.
Walsh said the city is moving forward with the third phase only because people have been “doing the right things” to help slow the spread of the virus.
- Movie Theaters
- Outdoor Performance Venues
- Museums
- Fitness Centers and Gyms
- Low-Contact Indoor Activities (such as rock climbing and batting cages)
While many Boston-based businesses will be opening, libraries are still closed. That said, the Boston Public Library is allowing library cardholders the ability to pick up books outside of the libraries.
While Boston is moving forward, Somerville announced that Phase Three will be delayed at least another week. Surges across the country continue to rise, with Florida seeing the highest of cases this week of all the states. According to Mayor Walsh, those are high because “the residents and the people there didn’t take the precautions that we have in Boston and Massachusetts.”
While things are looking optimistic for the city, there are some concerns. However, according to Mayor Walsh, “as long as business owners and individuals follow the guidelines for social distancing, cleaning, and face coverings, the mayor said the city “should be OK.”
