  • Face coverings are required for everyone over 5 years of age. This includes both visitors and staff. Face coverings must be worn at all times, except when eating or drinking.
  • Social distancing is encouraged. Please stay at least 6 feet apart from other people, especially if you are not wearing a face covering.
  • Hand sanitizer is available throughout the Aquarium. Please use hand sanitizer frequently to help prevent the spread of germs.
  • The Aquarium is operating at a limited capacity. This means that there may be lines to enter exhibits and attractions. Please be patient and understanding.
  • Some exhibits and attractions may be closed or have limited capacity. Please check the Aquarium website for the latest information before your visit.
  • If you are feeling sick, please stay home. The Aquarium is not a place to visit if you are sick.
  • Purchase your tickets in advance. This will help you avoid lines and ensure that you have a spot for your desired time of visit.
  • Arrive early. The Aquarium gets crowded, especially on weekends and holidays. Arriving early will give you a chance to see the exhibits before the crowds arrive.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking at the Aquarium. Wear shoes that are comfortable and supportive.
  • Bring a water bottle. There are water fountains throughout the Aquarium, but it is always a good idea to bring your own water bottle.
  • Leave your bags at home. Large bags are not permitted in the Aquarium. If you need to bring a bag, it must be no larger than 12″ x 12″ x 12″.
  • Be prepared for inclement weather. The weather in Boston can change quickly. Be prepared for rain, snow, or sun by dressing in layers.

There is also an Aquarium T stop on the MBTA Blue Line and it’s a quick walk to the New England Aquarium as well as an 8-15 minute walk from other subway stops/lines.

The least expensive way to get to the New England Aquarium is to walk or take the train.

The NE Aquarium does not have its own parking garage but there are area parking garages, but they can be expensive, especially on weekdays.

Here are a few parking options if you need to drive in:

  • Harbor Garage: Usually around $35  for 24 hours, weekdays and weekends; Early Bird Mon-Fri; In Between 5 am-8:30 am / Out Between 2 pm-12 am $24.
  • 30 Rowes Wharf: Usually around $40 for parking longer than 80 minutes, weekday evenings after 5 pm and weekends are $18 {note: I didn’t see a number listed on the parking garage
  • Garage at Post Office Square: Usually about $42  for weekdays and $28 for Weekday price with validation.

I’m a big fan of smartphone parking apps because you can see what parking garages are available at the current price. Oftentimes you can receive New England Aquarium Discount Tickets for booking through the app as well.

Here are some parking apps to check out as well as free credit for new users:

If you don’t want to drive, walk, or take the train, you can also take the ferry to the New England Aquarium. You can take a boat from Hingham, Hull, or Logan Airport.

Fares vary, but it’s generally $9.25 per ride. Children under 11 can ride free and students and seniors can receive half off rides.
