Matilda

One of the most beloved children’s books of all time is coming to Boston. This April, Roald Dahl’s classic novel Matilda will be brought to life on stage at the Greater Boston Stage Company in a one-of-a-kind performance sure to put a small on your face – no matter your age. That smile is sure to widen once you read that Boston on Budget readers can get tickets for over half-off.

Matilda was first published in 1988 and has been ranked by Time magazine as one of the 100 Best Young Adult Books of All Time. Matilda has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide and is Dahl’s best selling book. Matilda was even adapted into a film directed by Danny DeVito in 1996 which has gone on to become a cult classic.

The story of Matilda follows Matilda Wormwood, an imaginative five-and-a-half-year-old girl who loves to prank her parents. Matilda soon discovers that she has the power to move objects with her mind, and that’s where the real fun begins.

The Greater Boston Stage Company’s adaptation of Matilda features music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, who wrote the Olivier Award-winning, Tony Award-winning, and Grammy Award-nominated show Matilda the Musical which first hit Broadway in 2013. The show may be finished with its Broadway run, but you can catch it live on stage here in the Boston area.
