Education will certainly look a little different this coming fall. This week, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education released the first guide which addresses key safety and social distancing measures.
These measures are put in place to protect students, teachers, and staff from COVID-19. In the initial memo, there will not be temperature checks, however, students and staff will be required to wear masks.
In addition, classroom spaces will have to be redesigned, 6 feet apart, and will be limited to 10 students per classroom.
The seven-page document included health and safety guidelines, along with items needed to order for the first few months of school. These items include masks and gloves, along with hand sanitizer. In addition, the memo mentions the following categories that will be required for reopening:
- Face coverings
- Not coming to work if feeling sick or having any symptoms associated with COVID-19
- Hand sanitizing and hand washing
- 6 feet of separation at all times
- Specific Isolation Rooms if students become ill during the day
- Regular sanitization procedures
- Small groups of students per teachers (10 students, max)
Later this week, a more thorough guide on special education programs will be released, followed by final school guidance and initial reopening.
