The city’s Housing Authority announced today that it’s extending its pause on nonessential evictions until the end of 2020.
The relief will be provided to thousands of lower-income residents during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Mayor Marty Walsh.
“These are extraordinary times, and right now,” said Mayor Walsh. “We all need to come together to ensure that our city’s most vulnerable residents are able to continue to live and work in the city they call home.”
What constitutes as nonessential evictions?
All proceedings except for those related to criminal activity and those necessary to protect public health and safety.
What if I’m unable to pay rent?
Step one would be to notify your housing manager or landlord and establish a repayment plan. All tenants will still be required to pay their rent in the future, as it will not be erased.
Who do I reach out to if I can’t pay rent?
If you’re facing economic hardship, residents should reach out to their voucher provider or Boston Housing Association to re-certify their income and decrease monthly payment.
When does the statewide eviction expire?
Eviction and foreclosure moratorium is slated to expire on August 18.
