With the Fourth of July holiday right around the corner, Massachusetts is permitting holiday firework displays, however with certain stipulations in place.
Town fireworks will be allowed this year, however, the following rules must be followed:
- No organized viewing
- All displays must be remote, viewers must watch from their own home
- No parades or gatherings
While the firework displays in the state are restricted, that certainly isn’t stopping illegal fireworks from going off in Massachusetts towns each night. Police departments are receiving a dramatically increased amount of calls regarding fireworks at night.
Boston Police state that during the first week of June, they received more than 1,400 calls regarding the lighting of fireworks, compared to 22 calls during that time period the previous year.
“This is a serious issue. People are frightened, people are losing sleep, babies and kids are woken up, pets are terrified. Our veterans and others with PTSD are experiencing real harm and it’s a real fire hazard in our city,” said Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said in a press conference earlier this month.
