However, there’s so much budget-friendly ideas on my pages, I thought it would be fun to feature something budget-friendly and different each week. Also, each Feature Friday is something I have personal experience with or took advantage of recently! Enjoy!
Samuel Adams Brewery in Jamaica Plain offers Free Brewery Tours, with a suggested donation of $2. The brewery offers free tours Monday-Thursday and Saturday from 10am to 3pm, and tours lasting until 5:30pm on Friday.
It’s been a little while since I went to the Sam Adams Brewery in JP, but it definitely something fun, cheap, and different! I went on a Saturday in the summer, and the website recommends getting there early, especially on Saturdays because capacity fills around noon. We got there a little before noon, and we had to wait 45 minutes or so to get in. I’m sure every day is a little different, so if you want to get in, get there early to claim a ticket. No reservations can be made in advance.
I have been to a few Brewery Tours and the Sam Adams Tour is fun. However, the brewery is small so you do not move around much (especially compared to Harpoon Brewery Tours). The first half an hour is the tour and the second half is sitting and drinking in a beer tasting room. The staff gives out different beers to taste in pitchers for each table to drink from with individual and free Sam Adams tasting glasses.
If you want to drink as much free beer as possible, I’d recommend carefully picking your table and new table mates for the next half hour. 😉
The Sam Adams Brewery can be found in Jamaica Plain off the Orange Line Stony Brook stop. There is limited parking available, but the T is recommended.
If you are visiting Boston and would like to check out a brewery tour, The Harpoon Brewery in the Seaport District is another great option. It is a little easier to get too, more bars and restaurants in the area, and they are a little more generous with beer! Harpoon does charge $5 a ticket compared to $2 suggested donation at Sam Adams.
