More and more towns on the north shore are shutting down parking lots to beaches to those who aren’t residents.

Traffic and parking tickets spike as the North Shore becomes a destination for tourists this summer.

Perhaps the hardest hit is Gloucester – after a record high weekend of parking tickets. Just last week alone, the police wrote over 450 tickets compared to the 150 at the same time last year.

Beaches in Glouster will be closed to non-residents, not only due to immense traffic but also due to the COVID-19 pandemic concerns. Given the number of people at the beach, it’s incredibly hard to social distance

As a reminder, on beaches, a minimum of twelve feet is required between blankets and towels.

How long will the parking ban last? According to the mayor of Gloucester, the city will make a statement next week on how long the ban will continue.
