Tulipalooza, the Annual Flower Festival is back at Waxahachie

Spring is arriving and with it the annual flower festival, Tulipalooza is coming back, this time at the Waxahachie Civic Center. The ten-day long celebration of tulips will showcase fine varieties of the flower in all its different colours making for a lovely walk through the blooming gardens. Tulip bulbs are imported all the way from Holland for the festival and planted by Dutch farmers in the gardens. And what is really exciting is the festival’s ‘u-pick-em’ field. Here, you can pick the flowers you like and take them home.

Fundraising and Tulipalooza – One of the Best Spring Break Ideas near Dallas

Tulipalooza is run by the Poston Gardens Foundation as a fundraiser for the residents of Daymark Living, a supported living community for adults with IDD. The founder, John Poston started this festival in 2019 simply as a way to create jobs for the residents at Daymark. The idea to plant a tulip garden to raise funds seemed crazy at first but in just three years, the festival has become a collaborative charity event in which all the proceeds from the ticket and tulip sales are donated to different causes. This year, Tulipalooza has teamed up with 12 North Texan charities and you can choose which one to donate to when you book your ticket.

What to do at Tulipalooza

When the COVID-19 crisis hit last year, social distancing became the norm and even though tulips were in bloom, visitors were not allowed to enter the gardens. But in 2021, Tulipalooza will run in full swing and nearly 250,000 colourful flowers will be on show, accessible to visitors on all days. You can simply walk through the rows of flower beds and get your fill of the spring season or
enjoy a number of other attractions at the festival including live music performances, tulip picking and so many food trucks. Tulipalooza also offers a bunch of sponsorship opportunities, which you check out here.
