Texas Civil War Museum

No event has shaped American history like the Civil War. From 1861 to 1865, the United States was torn in half by a conflict that took up to a million Americans’ lives. Texas declared its secession from the United States and joined the Confederate States during the Civil War, but Texas was mainly used in a supply capacity throughout the war. Nevertheless, Texas played a significant role in the Civil War that historians continue to study today.

About the Texas Civil War Museum

The Texas Civil War Museum opened in 2006 in order to share the story of Texas’ Civil War history with the public. Today, the museum houses over 15,000 square feet of exhibits spread across three different galleries displaying a Civil War collection, a Victorian Dress collection, and a United Daughters of the Confederacy Texas Confederate collection. The museum also includes a gift shop and a 75-seat movie theater which plays the commissioned film Our Homes Our Rights: Texas in the Civil War.
