Kick off the Christmas season this Friday, Nov. 26, with two fun holiday events in Fort Worth: The Parade of Lights and the Sundance Square Tree Lighting. The festivities begin around 2 p.m., with a “Holiday Fun Zone” in the Chisholm Trail parking lot between 3rd and 4th streets downtown. The zone includes live entertainment, children’s holiday crafts and coffee from Starbucks.
Around 5:15 p.m., the city’s Cowboy Santas will take to the streets, collecting toys for needy local kids. All event attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy suitable for a child 12 years of age or younger. (Don’t bring toy guns or other toys that represent violence.)
The Parade Of Lights kicks off at 6 p.m. at Throckmorton and Belknap streets, then travels towards Commerce, then south on Commerce to 6th St., west on 6th Street to Houston St. and then north to Weatherford St.
Immediately after the parade, head over to Sundance Square to watch a 55-foot blue spruce tree get lit up for the holiday season. The tree will be on Main between 3rd and 4th streets. The talented Four Day Weekend Improv Troupe will delight the crowd with a special holiday performance, followed by an appearance of the jolly old elf himself – Santa! He’ll hang around until 10 p.m. Pics with Santa are $7, and proceeds benefit the Fort Worth Sister Cities International Youth Scholarship Program.
If you’re so inclined, come to the Chisholm Trail parking lot around 7:45 p.m. for a special free outdoor screening of the holiday movie Fred Claus, starring Vince Vaughn. Bring your own chair.
