Cinco de Mayo

This weekend marks one of the most important holidays in Mexican-American culture: Cinco de Mayo. In order to commemorate this historic holiday, Traders Village is hosting a full weekend of live music and celebrations for the whole family.

This Saturday, May 4th and Sunday, May 5th, Traders Village is throwing a free Cinco de Mayo party that will feature 16 different bands spread out across three different stages. The music begins each day at 11 am under the Blue Expo and 12 noon each day under the Big Red Patio. The celebration is completely free for the whole family, and parking at Traders Village is always just $4. Aside from the live music, all of the usual food, rides, and unique shopping will be at Traders Village to make this a truly one-of-a-kind Cinco de Mayo party.

You’re probably familiar with the margaritas and Mexican food side of Cinco de Mayo, but this festive holiday began to honor one of the Mexican army’s most significant victories. In 1862, Mexican forces were able to halt the advance of the French army as they marched towards Mexico City. In Mexico, the holiday is typically honored with military parades and battle reenactments.

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has since taken on its own life as a celebration of Mexican-American heritage and culture. In places with significant Mexican-American populations like Texas or California, the holiday has become an integral part of Mexican-American culture. In many ways, the holiday has become bigger in America than it is in Mexico.

To commemorate this important holiday, Traders Village is throwing a party featuring 16 different bands spread out across three different stages. A schedule and full list of performers can be found here. Some of the featured acts at the Traders Village Cinco de Mayo party include Avizo, Hometown Boys, Ilyssa Saenz, and Fosforito Clown.

Once you’ve had your fill of live music or need to give your legs a break from dancing, stroll around Traders Village to hunt down a bargain, hop on a classic amusement park ride, or grab a bite to eat. This event and Traders Village are always free, and parking is always just $4.

Traders Village is located at 2602 Mayfield Road, Grand Prairie, Texas 75052. For more information call 972-647-2331, email, or visit the event’s official website.
