Spring Break is here! Don’t go stir crazy in the house – get out and have fun with these activities in Fort Worth and nearby:
Ride the Forest Park Train – The Forest Park Miniature Railroad offers a 35-45 minute train ride for kids and parents from the Forest Park Depot off Colonial Parkway in Forest Park to the Duck Pond in Trinity Park and back with one stop at the Trinity Park Depot in Trinity Park. The train crosses six bridges on its route including a 350 foot girder bridge and 171 foot truss bridge, both of which cross the Clear Fork of the Trinity River. Fort Worth Zoo – this is always a great activity, but it’s especially good on Wednesdays, when admission is half price, bringing it to $4.50 for kids 3-12 and $6 for adults. Visit their website for hours.
Kimbell Art Museum – they’re having a variety of kid-oriented Spring Break activities this week, and admission is always free. See the past post for details on the Spring Break Extravaganza.
UTA Planetarium – Take the kids to Arlington for cheap movies at the Planetarium. On Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays they have $2 movie showings; see the schedule for details. They also have astronomy-oriented films on other days for a reasonable price, too. See the UTA website for information on the films.
Amon Carter Museum – if you have older kids, expose them to some of the American art at this museum on Camp Bowie. Admission to the museum is always free. This week is Family Fun Week at the museum and a variety of activities are scheduled. See their website to see which activity is going on each day.
Log Cabin Village – step back in time at this favorite kid-friendly Fort Worth attraction. The folks at Log Cabin Village have recreated a village from the pioneer era; kids can view a variety of historic structures, visit the herb garden, see a reproduction blacksmith shop, and more. Admission is a reasonable $4 for kids and $4.50 for adults. See their website for directions and more info.
Visit the Cheesy Food Truck – food trucks have finally hit Fort Worth! This mobile culinary delight serves up all things cheese, from grilled cheese sandwiches to mac n’ cheese and nachos. They’re parked in the medical district in Fort Worth’s Near Southside from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. See a menu here. Grab the kids and get outside to enjoy an unusual lunch in the nice spring weather.
Get Jumpy – Fort Worth has several Pump It Up franchises, which all have “open jump” times that you can bring in your kids to jump on their inflatable play spaces. The Fort Worth North location actually has some buy-one-get-one coupons and Family Play Pass discounts that you can print to save a little on admission. (Note that the FW location on Green Oaks is not reopening until March 19.) The Arlington location is having a special St. Patrick’s Day Party on Thursday with pizza!
