*Every Monday throughout 2014 I will be sharing Money Savings Tips to help stick to and expand your budget!
Saving on the go is one of my favorite ways to save money mainly because it is quick and easy. I also like to save money on things I am going to buy anyway.
However, sometimes I can be a little hesitant to try new things (aka joining Twitter in 2012. Although I was the 57th person to join Facebook at my college. So, it evens out right?)
When I first heard about money saving app Checkout 51, I was a little stubborn to join because I already had Ibotta on my phone and didn’t want to keep up with another receipt-loading app. However, there were so many great offers on Checkout 51 so I finally caved a few weeks ago and downloaded it.
Checkout 51 works similar to Ibotta if you are familiar, but you can buy products at any store and it’s a little easier to navigate. Once you purchase a product listed on the app, you simply take a picture of your receipt and then wait for it to hit your account, usually within an hour. Once you have $20, you can receive payment.
Every Thursday new items on the list switch over, and you have until the following Wednesday to buy and upload your receipt. For example, two weeks ago I noticed milk was on the list and if I purchased one gallon of any brand of milk during the week, I would receive .50 into my account. I also bought one or two other items, and only had to upload my receipt once and click off the items I wanted to redeem.
The best part of Checkout 51 is that there are many items that I would buy anyway— one gallon of any brand milk, one yogurt of any brand, bananas, Triscuits, etc.
When I get home, I pull out my receipt, open the app, take a picture of the receipt and check off the items I want to redeem. It takes less than a minute of my time and most, if not all, of the items I would have bought anyway.
Doing simple things like Checkout 51 is a great way to save money or earn money– depending on which way you look at it.
Checkout 51 is still fairly new, so I found it very impressive to hear that someone redeemed a check for over $1,500 already! I personally haven’t redeemed anything yet and I’m waiting to do so before Christmas for some extra spending cash!
Have you tried Checkout 51Â yet? Do you have any tips or tricks to share?
